John W Crouse, 79, Durham, NC & Covington died at 3:10 p.m Tuesday, March 25, 2003 in St. Vincents, Williamsport. He was born 8-10-1923 Rt 1, Covington son of Carl & Zola Smith Crouse. He married Helen Colclough in 1946 and they resided in Durham. She preceded in death 1983. Marr Marie Townsend Denhart 8-21-2001 and they lived in Durham until 4-1-2002 at which time they came to COvington. She survives. He attended Perrysville HS. Served in the Army from 1943 until Jan 1946 overseas at Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Wounded in Germany 4-15-1945 and received a purple heart. Rifle Expert and rec'd American Theater ribbon Eame Theater ribbon with 3 bronze stars. Good Conduct ribbon & WWII Victor Medal. Tech 5 with 303 D Engineers. Member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Durham where he served as deacon and treas. He was in construction and had built several homes in Durham before retiring. Survivors two daughter, Glora (Tony) Long, Debra (Tony) Freeman; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandch all of NC, a stepson David Denhart, St. Louis, Mo stepdaughter Alice Denhart step grandson, Thomas Denhart; two brothers, Robert Crouse, Crawfordsville and rRch (Ann) Crouse, Covington; a sister, Donna (Larry) Fortner Wingate and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Pastor James Shaw officiating. Funeral services will then be at 10 a.m. Monday in Hudson Funeral Home, Durham NC and burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Durham .-- donated obit
